Roscommon County Final Preview – St Brigids v Padraig Pearses

We have the latest news and will have live score updates from the Roscommon County football between Padraig Pearses v St Brigids.

The Roscommon Football Championship reaches its climax this Sunday. Holders Padraig Pearses return to defend their Fahey Cup title. On the other hand, St. Brigid’s aim to win for the first time since 2017.

Padraig Pearses return to the final after a tough semi-final challenge against Clann na nGael. As the game rolled into injury time, Pearses were trailing by a score. Nonetheless, the champions prevailed. It took a last gasp score from Lorcan Daly to complete a late surge. It finished 1-11 to 1-10.

On the other hand, St. Brigid’s were convincing winners against Boyle. Two goals at opposite ends of the game proved to be the difference. Firstly, Ruadhri Fallon opened the St. Brigid’s account on six minutes with a goal. Then, Ben O’Carroll found the net twenty-three minutes into the second half to give his side some breathing room. The full-time score was 2-15 to 2-09.

St. Brigid’s are no strangers to the final. In fact, they have appeared in eight of the last ten in Roscommon. Famously, they went all the way to All-Ireland glory in 2013. Their last appearance came in 2018. However, it ended in a loss.

Last year, Padraig Pearses lifted their first-ever Roscommon Senior Football Championship. This is a result they hope to replicate this weekend. However, 2016 final featured the same two sides. On that occasion, St. Brigid’s won by seven points.

“Every day is a school day in management, you are always learning as you go along, but you do see similar things cropping up.You see behavioral things, even stuff like patterns of play. I wouldn’t be that set on a style of football, I’d look at the group of players I have, and then try to put a game plan together that would suit them.

“You don’t panic at things, you don’t fret over stuff. The more experienced you get you mellow a little bit too in that.

“It is all a learning curve, things will happen on Sunday, you will sit down after the game and think I wasn’t expecting that, which is the beauty of the game.” said St Brigid’s manager Benny O’Brien

Pearses are also in the hurling final, Moore, Creagh and Taughmaconnell would be celebrating for weeks if Pearses could do the senior hurling and football double. They are also in the minor football final.

St. Brigid’s are favorites to regain the county final with Brian Derwin, Ciaran Sugrue, and Ben O’Carroll providing a very potent forward line but Padraig Pearses will be hard beaten, with David Murray running the defense, the class of the Daly brothers, and Hubert Darcy providing the vital scores we predict a five-point win for reigning champions.
